INSTALLATION for ULTRABARRIER™, VALUEBARRIER™, DURABARRIER™, and IMPACTBARRIER™:
Installation Over Existing Drywall:
If 3% of an area is not covered, the area will transmit 50% of the sound. The entire area must be covered with the Acoustic Vinyl Barrier Composite. This includes removing or covering the base board, and using our acoustical sealant to fill any gaps in electrical outlets, light switch receptacles or any gaps where the wall meets a wall, floor or ceiling. If the wall contains a door you must attach a door seal to cover the gaps. If the wall contains a window, then that may be the main source of sound transmission. Please call us to discuss how to resolve these issues.
Installation Methods for Acoustic Vinyl Barrier over Drywall:
- Drywall must be clean and free of dust and the room should be at least 70° F for adhesive to cure properly.
- Cut a section out of the roll if not using a sheet, apply a .25 inch bead of our Power Grab™ Adhesive, adhesive 1 inch from the perimeter of the sheet around the perimeter. Make an "X" pattern in the middle of the sheet.
- Apply the Acoustic Vinyl Barrier Composite to the existing drywall and nail the barrier to the wall every 12 inches with mechanical fastener (nails). For best results drive the nails into the wall studs - allow 24 hours for adhesive to cure.
Installation Methods for Acoustical Vinyl Barrier in New Construction:
- Using the Power Grab™ Adhesive apply a .25 inch bead to the length of the studs.
- Attach the acoustical Vinyl Barrier to the studs using a mechanical fastener. Nail the barrier every 12 inch on the length of the stud.
Installation Methods for Carpet Underlayment:
- For below carpet: secure to floor with carpet tape, or glued to floor or carpet with our Power Grab™ Adhesive.
- Using the Power Grab™ Adhesive apply a .25 inch bead spaced 12 inch apart the length of the sheet or roll. The adhesive can also be applied to the floor first.
- For carpet underlayments, the 1/4 inch foam vinyl composite is recommended for the minimum ripple effect when carpet is installed.
