Q: I recently purchased a portable 33 gallon air compressor for use in my home garage. When I started the compressor, I found that it makes a lot of noise. I want to set up something that will contain the compressor noise inside of my garage. This will need to be a containment structure that I can put up and take down because the garage area is used to park cars.
A: Containing the noise around a portable air compressor can be accomplished by first building a containment structure out of 1/2 inch plywood. If this is an electric compressor you will need a vent hole closest to the air exhaust. If it is gas powered, an enclosure would not be recommended. Purchase our QuietBarrier™ material and attach it to the interior surface of the plywood enclosure with our Super Acoustical Adhesive. The QuietBarrier™ will effectively reduce the majority of the noise and contain it within the enclosure. The link for the QuietBarrier™ is listed below. You will have to check with the manufacturer’s specifications regarding proper ventilation for your compressor.
